"This is without a doubt, one of the best records I've
heard this millennium."
- Lip Service Magazine
"This eclectic effort showcases Latin feels, smooth upright
bass, tight turntablism, rapping and lots and lots of head-nodding
grooves. This is ear candy more akin to Belgian chocolate than
to the more pervasive and inferior Hershey's variety."
- Keyboard Magazine
"It's rare to find a debut album that covers so much
musical territory with so much creativity. Great grooves you
can both dance and listen to."
- Pacifica Radio
"Dare I say, Taoriffic. Take groovy beats, sample over
some funky orchestrals, throw in some varied vocals and what
you get is a CD that is perfect for chilling out to or getting
your funky swerve on to. Fresh Goods did not disappoint, even
though my expectations were high. Call it a bridge from jazz
instrumentals into funkadelic pop. The album starts strong with
four solid efforts in a row. Track one ‘Makes you Extatic’
wets your appetite for what you want to hear, solid beats mixed
with the instrumentals – nice. Track two ‘Mulatica
Mia’ throws in some vocals and some spanish rhyming, sweet.
Track three ‘Honeybee Blues’ is more instrumental
laden beats, but on a blues tip and it works. The rest of the
album is bolstered by track eight ‘Cha Cha Cha 57’
another solid effort of instrumentals over phat beats. The remaining
tracks are strong.... this album might be the one you are looking
for."
- TakeOutMusic
"Fresh is the word! This is the freshest - and richest!
- blend of the liveliest and most dynamic grooves around. This
may be the feel-good album of the year, featuring top quality
musicianship, and musical references to keep you happy, awake
and moving til the wee hours. Don't miss this one."
- The Visioneering News Service
"The Tao of Groove embraces the styles of funk, blues,
jazz, soul, latin, and world beats to bring the listener one
step closer to nirvana... Andrea Miller delivers a beautiful
range of soothing vocals backed by an impeccable arrangement
of strings and synths on "Maybe"... don't sleep on
this exotic gem."
- UCLA Radio
"This Multidimensional debut from Los Angeles producer
Roy Shakked defies the conventions of formulaic Top 40. While
The Tao of Groove's Fresh Goods gathers steam from sampling,
scratches and great rhythm programming, it's the unusual details
that make it a rocket. Shakked invited talented colleagues to
swing by his studio and contribute live cello, acoustic guitar,
flute, bass and vocals. The result is a unique mix that draws
on Indian, Latino, classical, blues and jazz traditions. Each
track on The Tao of Groove is smashingly different. My Favorites
are the Latin-flavored "Mulatica Mia," the come-hither
"Superspectral" and the groove-laden "Flowing
Like Water." This album now has permanent residence in
my car stereo."
- New Age Retailer
"5 Stars...The sleeper hit we've all been waiting for...The
Tao Of Groove will blow you away."
- Music Market
"Fresh Goods delivers what it promises. (Groove Gravy's)
latest venture has fresh mixes, fresh rhythms and in general
a breath of fresh air in the beat heavy world of dance music.
Shakked's work could quite possibly take mixing to a whole new
level."
- The Oakland Tribune
"This CD is unbelievable...true to every genre it takes
on...intelligent and sophisticated, while not losing focus of
the groove and catchy hooks"
- The World DJ
"'Fresh Good' is, without a doubt, one of
the best albums of all time. Hyperbole? No, its seriously that
good, and seriously that groovy. Seriously. Every
listen you notice and appreciate something different in each
track; the "tao" of "groove" stirring something
different within your musical soul; you find yourself with
a different favourite song every time. Right now, for instance,
I can't get enough of "Interlude: T drops in" - and
its just an "interlude"; within 40 seconds, a plummeting
bass guitar adriotly slips into the dirtiest funk you'll ever
hear. My only complaint lies in my own gluttony and appetite
for more - the brevity of the album leaving you hungry
- no, thirsty, its more appropriate given the smooth liquid
sounds of the Tao - for more. And every time I put Tao on,
I get asked fervently who the hell it is and why don't they
have the album. And I look at them incredulously, and say, "I
don't know! Get a life. Get Fresh Goods. It's truly (seriously)
rewarding. Do it. (Note: this is not an advertisment I am sincere
and candid; though it risks sounding like one, such is the
ardour and enthusasim that posses me as I listen to this album
for the umpteenth time.)
Do it. "
- Oscar Hedstrom, Sydney, Australia
"The Tao of Groove is one of the most inventive and eclectic
albums this listener has heard in years. From jazz to blues
to urban/Latin to tracks that defy any pigeonhole "Tao"
is a producer's tour de force - for all its disparate elements,
"Tao" hangs together like a multi-colored yin-yang
symbol expanded into the 9th dimension."
- Ken Wennergren, Topanga, CA
"My company produces music compilations as premium gifts
for major corporations. We are extremely critical when it
comes to listening to new CDs that are sent to us. When I
heard The Tao of Groove, it blew me away. The musicianship
is excellent and the production of the album stands out. I
only wish that we, the music public, would come to our senses
and start listening to music like The Tao of Groove. Until
then, I will be lucky enough to have my copy and share with
friends."
- Denny & Damon Tedesco, CD Promo
"...Truly amazing. Each of the pieces is unique...no two
are alike but you will love them all. Some of the tracks will
make you get up and dance! I'm going to order more copies for
my friends. Great work."
